Shop BuzzFeed Gives Back In Honor Of Tasty's 5th Birthday: World Central Kitchen

Given the current state of affairs, it’s important to remember the responsibility brands and retailers have to better the world. We often forget that our communities can go without something as basic as a warm meal. As of June 2020, Shop BuzzFeed has established a more concerted effort to give back to those in need. Previously, we had been able to support a variety of charities with distinct collections but have since figured out how we can help in a more impactful way. In continuing with our monthly charitable giving initiative, and in aim to put more food in the hands of those that need it, Shop BuzzFeed will be donating 10% of our entire store’s profits for the month of August to World Central Kitchen.

WCK uses the power of food to heal and strengthen communities through times of crisis and beyond. They have transformed the field of disaster response to help devastated communities recover and establish resilient food systems. WCK was founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés and his wife Patricia who had always been committed to amplifying their core belief that “food can be an agent of change”.  Their programs provide fresh and nourishing meals with local ingredients to those who have survived recent natural, or man-made disasters. As a global non-profit, WCK has touched lives from Puerto Rico, which saw the contribution of 3.7 million meals after Hurricane Maria, to Mozambique, where more than 350,000 meals were given after the arrival of Cyclone Idai. We encourage you to take a look at their infographic that helps to visualize and quantify their positive effect in 2018 alone.

We are honored and excited to support World Central Kitchen and hope you join us in this effort through your purchase from any Shop BuzzFeed collection for the month of August. Thank you to World Central Kitchen for all you do and for allowing us to partake in something we believe in, the power of a warm meal.

“Wherever there’s a fight so hungry people may eat, we will be there.”
